Project Description

This project will hold an annual statewide, cross-disability, multi-agency conference to promote the independent living philosophy. SILC plans to host the conference in Dallas in 2012, Austin in 2013, and Corpus Christi in 2014. Attendance is targeted for at least 350 individuals the first year with the intent to add 75 more participants with developmental disabilities each year. The conference will provide technical assistance and training on independent living; opportunities to develop peer relationships through collaborative learning and personal networking; and sessions on self-advocacy, legislative advocacy and leadership.
