Project Objective
The proposed project will empower the independence, productivity, and inclusion of individuals with developmental disabilities and their families to develop knowledge and make informed choices.

Developing a knowledge base of employment options and skills necessary to managing money and developing credit is a way of enhancing quality of life goals. It is part of crosscutting systems to support high level expectations that individuals with developmental disabilities should be working and when coupled with financial literacy, it has the potential to reduce dependence on government assistance. This will build on the momentum of self-determination through activities that promote employment, the use of limited public benefits, Social Security work supports, and opportunities for protected savings that help individuals and service providers build capacity as individuals move forward towards economic capability.

The project will develop materials, online trainings, and sustainability that will respond to the fears and frustrations in the need for accurate information. It will also provide the Texas Council for Developmental Disabilities with cutting edge, statewide educational tools that promote employment and financial empowerment that enhance self-determination and self-sufficiency. The project will be made available statewide.

State Plan Goal 1
Create and support promising practices that enable people with developmental disabilities to be fully included in their communities and to have control over their own lives by 9/30/2021.
